1.2.3 value-chain view

value-chain view in multi-level view of system

The value-chain view is concerned with the interactions that the construction company has with other companies. The above diagram shows the construction company receiving supplies (of materials and machinery) from supplier companies and constructing artefacts (for instance bridges or roads) for customer companies. A more complex example might have a chain of such companies, each taking product components (or services) from its suppliers and "adding value" by combining the components into products (or services) that it supplies to its customers.
